Sulemana
Education Lead
About me
I am a Clinical Research Practitioner in General Paediatrics Research and a Doctoral Candidate in Public Health, with a strong professional and academic focus on safeguarding, health equity, and prevention.
I serve as the Education Team Lead, with a strong commitment to the prevention of FGM and the promotion of education, safeguarding, and human rights. I am passionate about education as a tool for social change and about supporting effective, ethical approaches to ending harmful practices that affect women and girls.
I coordinate the development of evidence-informed educational resources and awareness-raising initiatives that are culturally sensitive and accessible to diverse audiences. I work closely with colleague volunteers and partner organisations to strengthen capacity, promote informed and respectful dialogue, and ensure that all educational activities align with safeguarding principles and recognised best practice.
I am motivated by a strong commitment to equity, dignity, and social justice and by the belief that well-informed frontline professionals and empowered communities play a critical role in preventing FGM. Through my volunteer leadership, professional practice, and academic work, I remain dedicated to contributing to a future in which all women and girls can live free from harm.
Why this work matters
FGM is a serious safeguarding and public health issue with lifelong physical, psychological, and social consequences. Effective prevention depends on high-quality education, informed practice, and consistent standards across health, education, and community settings.
This work matters because well-designed, evidence-based education strengthens early identification, supports timely intervention, and helps shift systems and norms that allow harm to persist. By embedding safeguarding, human rights, and public health principles into education, this work contributes to sustainable prevention and the long-term protection of women and girls.
